Where to find your idea

Tip #1 -> Analyze your days and weeks

Identify frustrating or difficult situations that you experience on a daily basis. What causes these situations? What is the root of the problem? To find the root of the problem, start by describing the situation in question. Then ask the question "Why? After the answer, repeat the question "Why? Do this five times in all. You will see that this exercise will force you to describe and analyze the causes of a problem. Once you have a better understanding of the context of a problem and its roots, you can then generate ideas to create a solution!

Tip #2 -> Explore your passions

What obstacles have you experienced or are you still experiencing when it comes to pursuing your passions? What did you not like or find particularly difficult when you first started pursuing your passions? What would help you enjoy your passions more? What would lead others to learn and practice the same passions as you?

Thinking about potential ideas and projects is sometimes too rational a process when we are not emotionally involved. Use the energy and emotions you feel towards your passions as a driving force to think about issues you want to address!

Tip #3 -> Ask questions to people around you

Another way to identify needs is to talk to different people who will give you their point of view. You can then ask them:

  • What are your daily frustrations?
  • What are the two most important problems in your life that you would like to solve?
  • What are the obstacles you have had to overcome in the past or still have to overcome today?
  • What would make a positive difference in your life or the lives of those around you?

Meet with a few people to identify potential problems that resonate with you personally and that make you want to address them.

Tip #4 -> Do some research and test your idea

Once you have found some needs you would like to address and you have a good idea of the causes of one or more problems, it is time to do some research on the internet, in books, magazines, etc. Then try to find existing solutions or inspirations that will help you in the creation of your project.

Finally, meet some people and test your idea by telling them about your project. Pay attention to their initial reaction, the questions they ask you, the things they don't understand, etc. With this information, improve your project and prepare yourself to present your project.
